You can. It won't hurt anything. A tank is a tank, they are all made exactly the same. But the problem is more likely, you've got food particles stuck to the bottom of the tank or the sides.

An easier solution, just like your black tank, fill it with a few gallons of water and pour in a half gallon of bleach, take it for a drive for 20 minutes so the contents can slosh around real good and break all those particles and stuck on foods away, then come home and drain the tank immediately. Then fill the tank again to flush the bleach.

It will remove all food particle, and the bleach will clean the inside of the tank, and it won't smell (like crud) any more.

We do this about twice a season, black and grey tanks. (we have 3 tanks).

Your really not suppose to smell the gray water tank in your RV - you might consider checking your anti-siphon trap vent devices and make sure you have water in your p traps. The anti siphon traps are easy to replace and inexpensive.

the galley gray tank just doesn't get enough volume of water flushed through it to keep the bacteria making a stink washed out. We had the same problem the first 6 months of our new trailer until I started using grey tank deodorant periodically. Clorox is VERY effective at killing grey tank odor, but is also VERY effective at making the slide valves sticky. If you don't like changing out the slide valves, use a deodorant specifically for the grey tank. Some of the new eco-friendly black tank deodorants are labeled for use in grey tanks, also.

I've been using Walex Elemonate in the grey tank for a couple of years now, no odours at all. :B

Use what ever you use in the black. Surely you do use something in the black, don't you ? !!!

We use 1 cup of Borax powder dissolved in 2 cups of hot water and add 1 cup of Dawn Platinum dish detergent. No odor. We are also careful of what we put in the dishwater. We wipe dishes before we wash them. No food, grease, etc.

Add a quart of any liquid lemon cleaner. Fill tank and flush.

I routinely add a quart of liquid cleaner to my gray tank. It cuts any grease that may have formed and keeps the odor at bay.

You can pick up a generic brand of the Lysol Lemon cleaner for a dollar at most grocery stores.

I've always used the small bottles of Aqua Chem in my black water tank from day 1. So I have a couple of 6 packs stored in the RV all the time.

Once, I had a bad odor from my gray water tank...put one of the small) bottle of Aqua Chem in it...(just like the black water tank)...odor gone and never came back.
