Grey water to flush toilet?

For someone that wants to boondock, is there any reason you couldn't plumb your grey water tank to flush your toilet? Looks like it would extend your stay. Saves fresh water and moves some of the grey water over to the black water tank. Feasible or just crazy talk?
  • Suggestions.
Wash dishes in basin, use basin to flush. (Saves gray and fresh)
When taking shower, use a pitcher to put the water in before the hot water starts coming out, use that water to flush.

What Todd said... remember gray water that's held very long can get very nasty. Maybe not as nasty as black but still nasty. I try not to put any solids, even rice grains or corn kernels, but it still happens. So you'd need a pump that'll pass those items or a screen arrangement to keep them out of the pump.

    Gray water is often nastier.

Unless you put in dual water supply to rinse the gray water out of the bowl, it's going to stink but there goes your water savings.

Reality is you don't use much water for a #1. I'm guessing we don't use much more than a cup per flush. If you are that desperate and in the middle of no where, find a bush and it uses no fresh water.
  • Want to save water? there's a recirculating rv toilet, not sure how that works - and I don't want to google it... just picturing how it works is gross enough for me.

  • You would have gray water then running through you water pump. I guess you could re plum things but you would have to filter the water so stuff would not plug you water valve on the toilet.
