Last night I went to flush and the water flowed but the flapper wouldn't open to dump contents. I'm hoping I don't have to replace the whole toilet! Any suggestions on how to repair??
when our foot pedal stopped opening we were able to pry it open using a screwdriver to at least get the contents to empty. Just a work around. If you have something with a suction cup that you can get stuck onto the flapper and pull it back enough to get a screw driver stuck in there you will be in a better position to troubleshoot it.
There are two cables from the pedal to up the back of the toilet one opens the water valve the other the flapper... My guess.. alas. though they are fairly easy to replace (I suspect) you will likely need to dismount the toilet to do it. Not a plesant job. I do not know if you can manually operate the valve from the rear.. I'd start by shutting off the water feed (I added a cut off valve and disconnecting the water.. Then remove the two base screws (7/16" wrench under the caps near the floor. then you may be able to turn the thing to look in the back without lifting it off the flange. Good luck.
Is it a foot flush or lever flush model? Do you know the make or model of the toilet? If you don't know the make or model give us the year make and model of the RV and we can try to look it up.
