Next thing you do is get a 30/50 amp adapter and use it whenever you can. The 50 amp outlets in campgrounds usually are not burnt up like the 30 amp ones. I have seen too many 30 amp outlets burnt up and it continues to your cord. No thanks. Once is enough.

After you fix it, try running something big like the WH, and check the plug for heat. Warm is ok, hot is not.

Many sockets are old and corroded which makes them less than 30a.

Definitely buy this plug for replacement. Not only easier it has a longer rigid shank which eliminates the flexing of the cord at the plug like on the others which loosens the wires over time. And IMHO it holds it tighter.

No more replacements for me after I switched over to this style.



Also because of the varied less than perfectly wired, loose outlets power stations we use traveling I make a point of sanding all the prongs periodically. Helps prevent them getting hot from bad connection. Take a look at you prongs if they are black or corroded you are on your way to melted plugs from resistance.

This is the style I like. Makes very easy to plug-in and pull out.

I too have seen crimped splices fail... When I did a job like that I used solder and LOTS of heat (I have some very heavy duty solder stuff) This was a few years ago. as of this very instant it's working.

Of course today I had hot.. Something smell, not exactly hot wiring, more like hot lubricant... Was starting to wonder.

Have a six inch fan in bedroom.. I usually go through 2 a year.. Tonight I have a brand new six inch fan.

thanks for the quick advise, I agree on not sparing on the expense with an electrical connection. I do plan on changing it soon.

I'm not so concerned with the electrical capabilities of the splices, but rather the reliability. If they were not done with a quality crimping tool, the constant flexing could cause a connection to fail, causing you a high resistance connection. I would get a righteous plug, either Camco or Marinco(my preference is Marinco) and do the repair correctly. The plug will run you about $20. I realize that everyone wants to get by with minimal repair expense, but electrical components is not something that I would scrimp on.
