Hall Effect DC amp meter

agesilaus - I read that too but the pictorial they show sthe meter being fed in both direction doesn't show anything on the main view that you going one direction or the other...

Maybe just a poor pictorial on their part...

The pictorial is very poor. It's one of those "spot the difference" puzzles.

In one direction, you have 2 decimal points, in the other direction, only one decimal point.

Having a minus sign would have probably cost them an extra penny per unit, so they went without

I will using one to measure the DC LOAD from the trailer as well as how much DC CURRENT is being demanded by battery bank when being charged...

I have the same Hall Effect +/- 70A DC Current meter that Don has and it has spoiled me big time. Both Don and I got these back in 2008 when they was being sold by a company called SURE ELECTRONICS from CHINA. I only got one and Don got two haha... Right after we bought them they sold out and became very expensive (Around $800) from another company called FCB ELECTRONICS... I doubt if FCB sold many of those at that price...

Mine has worked flawlessly since 2008... I need two more plus a spare now haha

Old-fashioned me...

Just ordered a 100-amp 100 mv N.I.S.T. documented shunt 100mv. Has 5/16" beryllium copper studs and nuts. The mv leads get soldered right to the shunt. The shunt goes inside a large flanged project box. At that current the Drok meter will accurately resolve to first decimal place. Bi Directional. Manganin shunts are hard to beat.

My next electronic gizmo will be a three-wire wireless v, a, w kWh meter with battery backup. Uses 5-volts so a 5-volt 7805 reg will be in the works.

Nice and I may pick up one or two for projects, but off the main batteries I've been known to such 200 amps.. Bit heavy for that sensor.

More than likely yes, if the sample voltage exceeds the supply voltage the ADC would be damaged. They may have clamping diodes on the sensor, to prevent excessive voltage from reaching the chip.

My 10 amp rated multimeter was showing 16 amp before it displayed out of range message.
I think those things do have big overload margin.
? for experts. If I put one of those rings over 2 wires that go to my battery, will this work well?
