Have you had a slide out controller fail?

I recently had a slide out controller fail in my Newmar motorhome. It was an Intellitec 00-971-100 controller for the large front slide on the driver side. I extended the slide at home and a couple days when I tried to retract it nothing happened. By switching the wires to the bedroom slide controller I determined the controller was bad. I ordered a new one (took almost a week to get it), and all is well once again.

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced a failed slide out controller? I'm thinking of buying a spare since we often camp in remote locations far from the nearest RV service center or parts outlet.

  • I have never had a slide controller fail. The first years I had my Newmar I had lots of intermittent problems. In the front it was always a magnetic proximity switch, either at the auto slide locks or the one for the entire slide in the basement. The longest lasting intermittent problem was the two switches, one each for the two rear bed room slides. Replaced those and 5 years of off and on problems went away. It to an independent mobile tech to figure out the two switch problem.
  • No, I haven't had a slide control fail. I have had a fuse blow on the bedroom slide and I now carry spares as they're small and cheap - I also learned how to crank it in by hand.

I wouldn't buy a spare slide controller unless another one fails. Did you check to see if the controllers for the other slides can be changed with the failed one if it happens again. That would be a PITA, buy it might be an option. And if all else fails, is there a way to manually retract the slide?
