Ceramic is fine for warmingh er........won't do much for water lines etc if TT is used during winter.

Water in plumbing..below freezing temps......busted water lines.

Fix the TT propane furnace.....use it. Supplement with ceramic heater

OR drain/winterize TT plumbing

Your post makes little sense.. I will make an assumption and try to post

You said it had a propane heater inside, Your daughter ask why, and the seller said one time he turned IT (Assumption you mean the furnace) on it was smoking.


Three things can cause an RV furnace to smoke.

1 a short in the blower motor can indeed let smoke out. Very rare More likely to blow fuse or trip breaker.

2: Insect/creature nesting in the path the flame/exhaust takes causing all sorts of problems. In fact I think this is likely the prime suspect.. Routing cleaning may include a nice high pressure/velocity air blast to blow that "stuff" to .. elsewhere.. may help.

3: Improperly adjusted air gate or dirty gas jet

Oh there is a 2.2 as well,, Dust accumulation burning off but this passes swiftly on a Furnace.

The reason for the assumption: The way you worte the post "IT" can only refer to the propane heater or to the trailer since those are the only two ITs in the post.. You failed to mention the factory installed furnace/heater.

Your new 5vr probably has same type of furnace as the one on daughters TT

Suburban or an Atwood propane fired furnace.
Depending on model could be direct discharge or ducted.

SMOKE.......???
Previous owner could be scared, unsure of what it was doing or close to having a fire. Who knows???

Need to turn furnace on and see IF there really is an issue

I added an electric Toe Kick heater. Basically it's an electric furnace. There was room under our refrigerator basically. I used the same circuit that the air-conditioner, they don't both use power at the same. It's not very noisy and I added a programable T-stat to it. We spend the winter in out RV in Florida.

You don't state age. BUT, a NEW LP RV Heater will smoke for 5 to 10 minutes to burn off the burner casing oil residue from the manufacture of the building of the furnace. Once that is done, then it will not smoke again. Doug

We hate our furnace and loud fan to no end... Wakes me up everytime it kicks in when we go to bed at night...

I have been thinking about installing the Olympian catalytic propane heaters here as well. This one guy on google search really has a neat install on the outside of a cabinet door. This one is also vented to the outside as well...



This would work great in my smaller OFF-ROAD POPUP setup. The installed furnace is way too much heater for my POPUP...

Most times aux heaters are added because the forced air heaters are so inefficient,....burn lots of propane. If electric is available, the forced air is usually not used at all.
Myself, I never use the forced air,....I rely strictly on 2 added Olympian catalytic propane heaters. They work well if humidity is not real hi.
