Mine does this. What I'm finding is that when I roll it up I need to hold the strap down with with my foot, but more toward the left side. It seems to me that it provides more resistance and the right side rolls just a hair earlier. The more we use the awning and close it like this, its getting better.
I'm curious, is this a Dometic awning? Our old trailer had a Care of Colorado awning and it performed flawlessly for 10 years. Not so much with our brand new Dometic awning.
