Correct, the OP is getting some nonsense answers. The storage lot guy is not an electrician and is full of it.
NicoleH, you have a wiring problem and need to fix it before using again. A GFCI has only one reason for existence and that is to save lives, do not ignore this issue.
My trailer came from the factory with a wiring flaw. It would trip a GFCI. The builder drove a staple through a Romex shorting the neutral and ground together. I found it by opening the electrical panel, removed all neutrals, and reinstalled one at a time to isolate the circuit.
If you can't do this yourself get an electrician. This is NOT a job for an RV repair shop because there is no guarantee that they have a clue how to repair or even how a GFCI works. Piece of cake for a real electrician.
