Well, I AM a RV Technician and have replaced a few and have looked inside them to see how they work. THAT is my basis for my comments. I am not aware of any RV that has a check valve instead of a standard P trap where there is room for a P trap. The flap(lip) valve looks just like the vent rubber sleeve on some motorhomes for the overflow for the fresh water tank. Doug
Just for the knowing! several people over at the Casita travel Trailer Forum have installed them and they like them, I haven't herd anyone say that they didn't work. Larry Gamble who owns http://www.littlehousecustoms.com/ has in stalled a lot of them, he has kits ready to go for casita trailers. - Well, I am a RV Technician and have replaced a few and have looked inside them to see how they work. Those are used in drain systems that have a ZERO space to mount a standard P trap assbly. They are used in Slide out drain lines and especially on outside kitchens that have a slide out sink in the outside compartment. If there is space for a standard P trap, the P trap is used. I personally would not want one if a P trap can be installed. Doug
Doug,
Why not?
The purpose of a P trap is to be a liquid barrier for sewer odors and gases, to keep them from coming back up thru the plumbing. Those check valves have a rubber type lip that flap closed to do the same thing. I think that would NOT always be a complete seal, so yes, install them if you cannot use a standard P trap, but do not think they are better than a P trap. Doug
Doug:
Are you speaking from experience? ..... or are you just thinking it would pass sewer gases through it?
My understanding is that they work just fine. Kiwi_too wrote:

Doug,
Why not? - BoonHaulerExplorerI just bought an 1&1/2" for my project that will be used on the bathtub drain. I have no problem with them other than there not cheap to buy.
