A year after I bought our 2004 Rockwood new, I wanted to install a cargo door in the rear storage compartment. The factory had a small access door that was WAY too small for the storage area size. The next year, Rockwood realized this and fixed it with a larger door! I talked to the dealer to see if I could order the larger door from Rockwood. He checked and said yes, for $350 (for just the part)!!.

I went on ebay and found a NEW door someone was selling. He had a batch of never-used doors from a door/window manufacturer that were mistakenly made slightly off-size. I paid $10 for the door (plus about $10 shipping), installed it, and it has worked perfectly since.

Check ebay under RV parts and you may find a pair of windows far cheaper than getting custom ones made. You have a range of sizes that would work since there is no opening now. This gives you some flexibility in the window size.

What I did was contact the manufacturer who made my 5th wheel and they sent me a schematic of how the framing in the wall were. It showed where the aluminum framing was with all the measurements.

I know of Peninsula Glass.

Am in AZ till May. When I return to OR, I'll give them a call.

Bill I agree with you. Peninsula Glass is right at the top (if not the top) when it comes to RV Glass.

I'm having them build all my windows.

about 8 years ago, I purchased windows to match my wilderness rig. Somewhere on the frame was the manufacturer's name (Kinro, Inc).

I contacted them, found a local dealer and was able to get two windows from them. They were small - 16" wide by 21 Inches tall.

I had the issue that Drew pointed out. you need to see if where you want the window placed is crossing a support beam. If you do, you have to box it out like you do a stick house (post and beam construction), but that can make a mess out of your side wall(s).

If you don't have anything in the wall where you want to place the window, they are compression fit (screws on the inside, butyl caulk and caulking on the outside).

I'd use a stud finder to see if there are wires or studs in the walls where you're cutting....

Do consider how the slide is framed internally prior to doing anything permanent in terms of adding windows. I would tend to guess that there isn't any framework in the way, but that's only a guess. (If there is, probably with enough work and reinforcement it could still be made to work satisfactorily, but it wouldn't be as simple as just cutting a hole and plopping a window in.)

Other than that and potential clearance problems when sliding in and out, I can't think of any particular reason why a window couldn't be added.
