Holding tank valve leak

Suddenly our 20 year old camper developed a leak from the black tank dump valve. We were sure it must be the seals, so replaced the valve and seals. Still leaks, so it must be the pipe itself or something on the flange. Has anybody repaired a pipe?
  • I've never had much luck with sewer valve seal kits. As they are all plastic, generally by the time the rubber seals wear out, the plastic surface they seal against has worn out, too. I always just replace the entire valve. Not that much more costly (and you don't have to disassemble the valve).
  • Exactly where and how is it leaking?

If the leak is inside the sewer pipe, double check that you properly installed the valve & seals and didn't accidentally damaged them during the install. Also make sure they are the correct way (backwards seals is a common replacement error)

But if the leak is on the outside the sewer pipes, you'll have to physically locate the leak point to determine what needs to be replaced which determines the level of difficulty. It could be something as simple as a improperly tightened band connection or as problematic as a cracked pipe junction.
