Sorry, MOST Electricians(I hate to call the ones that screw up that) WILL screw up a 50 amp RV installation. I FIX RV's all the time from incorrectly wired 50 amp service. I even have so called Electricians call ME to ask how it is wired. Doug
Would MOST electricians also mess up a 50A electric range installation, which is exactly the same wiring? Do you also see or hear of enormous numbers of ranges that need fixing because of miswired sockets?
30A RV outlets are not infrequently wired incorrectly because they appear, at least at a quick glance, to be the 30A 240V three wire dryer sockets that were standard for many years. Based on this, unobservant or ill-informed electricians (or others) wire them up to be 240V, which does cause problems in an RV that gets plugged in. But this particular problem does not apply to 50A RV sockets.
I don't want to suggest at all that it's a bad idea to check the wiring of any newly installed outlet (of any sort) before using it. Even highly skilled and knowledgeable people can and do make mistakes from time to time. The same can be said for most any work; I've encountered a sillcock (garden hose spigot) plumbed into the hot water line rather than the cold. I guess I ought to admit that I was the one who installed that faucet...and afterwards corrected the installation.
You are correct. What I should have stated is, they fail to correctly wire the 2 HOT leads to out of phase of the Breaker panel. This causes problems on RV's with EMS systems. Also, they also install a TOTAL of 50 amp breaker instead of TOTAL 100 amp (2 -50 amp breakers) which is NOT how a Range or dryer is installed for a 50 amp service. Doug
