Home HVAC Thermostat

I changed out my old Honeywell CT87 with the anticipator thermostat. I replaced it with an new Honeywell digital unit so we could add central AC later.

The problem is that it now overshoots the set temp by 3-4ยบ. The burner runs far too long. Heating cycle rate is set for 5. I also tried 6 with the similar result.Switch on back is set to Gas/Oil. There is nothing I can find to do the function of the old anticipator.

It is an oil hot air system that works perfectly otherwise and holds a very constant temp with the anticipator set at .4.

Any suggestions?

I called Honeywell India tech support. That was a disgrace.

Thanx
  • I installed a new tstat in my Gulfstream jet and it does not work above 25,000 feet. Anybody have a clue as to what is wrong?????????? Doug

Why 3? Wouldn't that extend the run time of the burner with only being 3 cycles per hour or am I missing something? Thanx

If you need heat now, and want to add A/C later, my course of action would be to re-install the 'stat that worked and let the A/C installers hassle getting both systems to play together.

There are Home HVAC sites that might give you more help than this RV site. That said, we DO attract professionals from many disciplines...

    1. You asked for help. The poster suggested 3. WHY argue with him. Try it and see what happens
    2. WHY would you post this on an RV forum????????????????? Doug
  • Read the manual. Most "intelligent" thermostats say that they require 8 to 10 days to learn the characteristics of a heating/cooling system and will adjust the on/off cycles accordingly.

What is your problem? I posted on this RV forum because there are many helpful professionals. An answer can usually be found for any problem.
Not that your opinion matters to me but I was not arguing with his answer. I was simply asking why he suggested it. Unfortunately people like you can read your negativity into anything.
If you have nothing better to do than stir ----, go post on TOBT.

Thanx for that. Unfortunately it is not a "intelligent" thermostat. Just an electronic. I have tried the previously recommended 3. I have also tried from 1 to 6. Still always runs too long and overheats. I may have to move up to the intelligent type learning model.
For now I just put the antique back on. :)
