Honda 2000i owners

My 5W has a 2” receiver bolted to the frame at the rear of the unit, I have been thinking about fabricating a mount to hold my Honda 2000i at the rear of my 5W using the 2” receiver.

A couple of questions-

1, (this one specifically for Honda 2000i owners) How did you secure the Gen to the shelf, bolt it to the mount, how? Use Nylon straps to hold it down, not very theft resistant? One of the contractor Gens on a pipe frame would not present a problem!

2, Did you fabricate a water proof wood or metal cover or use the Honda fabric cover?

Thank for your advice

I see that Torklift has a generator platform that locks... Have not seen it close up yet but it looks good from the pics...
  • Hi,

I've been carrying a generator on a rack at the back of my RV. It is secured by a metal cable intended for dogs. This lets me move the generator away from the RV when I'm parked, while still providing some theft resistance.
  • I use this for my cover:

    Generator Cover

I bought one of these to help secure the generator:

    Deterrent Bracket

I have a piece of exterior grade plywood, slightly larger than the base of the generator, bolted to the floor of the carrier. Using a hole saw, I made cutouts for the feet. These keep the generator from shifting around when running or when I'm driving.

I use a nylon strap to hold the generator in place. For security, I use a grade 70 piece of chain covered with a bicycle tube. This is looped through the handle, around the generator and fed through the floor of the carrier where it is locked together underneath.

    Chain

Lastly, the padlock is one of the anti-theft types.

    Hope this helps.
  • I use a standard hitch carrier with some 3/4 inch plywood bolted to it. I then use a Python cable lock run around the generator and the frame of the carrier and a nylon ratchet strap to hold it down. This also works on the front of the truck when hauling the truck camper. To protect from weather I bought a nylon cover from Academy Sports for a small outboard motor for $6 to cover it over the Python lock and the ratchet strap and it is held in place with a bungee cord. Here is a picture with it on the front of my truck.

I since received the Lock and Load from TorkLift and it id 100% GREAT!... Check it out , it locks the generator to the deck and is very secure..... I really like it..
  • Personally carrying something with gasoline in it on the back of my trailer/5th wheel isn't anything I care to do. could be a disaster in a rear end collision. And twice I've been bumped while stopped for a light with my 14' trailer.

Gas/generators go in the truck bed.
