Honda 2k 30 lbs on compression. Check

Honda would start for a second maybe 2 sec s litterly not to restart for an hour or so same result.
My mechanic said he did a compression check found only 30 lbs
Manual calls for 70.

I ordered a new unit today. But would like to get this one fixed as a back up

If anyone knows ball park figure on what parts most likely at worst I should count on getting
Could it be a simple gasket issue
And one that has a post or link that answers some of this thanks in advance

As usual any advice about not enough info sorry
Re reread the manual that's why I post here
Re read if u missed where I bought another one already

But big thanks for good advice if u care to share

  • Thanks you tube has the perfect5 part video on exactly what you said
Best part 3/4 s of the video is how to get to the valve an open the case with neat tips
  • Rickhise,
As others have said check your valves. Hondas have a problem with the intake valve sticking due to 'old fuel' and or ethonal fuel or a combo of both. I obtained a Honda with no compression and found the intake stuck fully open. Search YouTube for Honda gen valve adjust.
  • Thanks for the responses that's why this forum has my attention you can count on no nonsense
    Responses less the criticism
  • How long has it been since the valves were checked and/or adjusted? Tight clearances would keep it from running . Chino
  • Check the spark arrestor screen in the muffler, if it is clogged with carbon compression reading will be low. The engine has to be able to breathe, Also check valve settings.
