honda eu2000 extended fuel run

I bought an extended fuel run kit for my honda 2000 genny which consist of a modified gas cap with a quick connect & several feet of fuel line that goes into a 5gal. gas can. occasionally when using the extended fuel kit, the generator will start to surge or stall as if not getting any air. When it does this, i simply disconnect the brass connector on the generator gas cap which allows air back in & this fixes the issue, but is quite bothersome. Are there any remedies to permanently resolve this?
  • Did the kit come with the fuel tank or did you supply it? I would have expected the tank to have a vent to prevent this problem.

  • You need to keep the vent on the extended run tank open. The cap on the generator needs to seal well, gas cans with the push to fill nozzles can harm the sealing surface.

    What he said...
  • Also be careful about some fuel caps. Most extended run fuel caps are CNC machined aluminum, and they can strip the threads on the generator. The ideal would be a plastic gas cap which would be more forgiving.
  • What I do is :
-run the parallel cables to each generator
-hook the fuel lines up to the caps
-CLOSE the vent on the tank
    -start the 2 generators
-let them run for a few seconds with the vent closed to create suction
-open the vent on the tank
-don't worry about anything till it needs refueling...
I have not experienced any surging on mine as of yet.. have you tried some Seafoam ? that may help eliminate the surging ?

the cap is a modified oem cap
  • Well clearly it seals since you're starving the generator. So what about the aux tank vent?
