I was going to post "I'm surprized if the spark plug will last those thousands of hours" ... but you beat me to it as, indeed, the actual cause of it finally no longer running was it's well-used spark plug.
This topic is different from how long will a Honda still start up that has been around a potload of years regardless of how many total hours it has on it: We carry a Honda along in our RV that is AT LEAST 25 YEARS OLD and it still starts right up whenever we need it. It sometimes sits stored in the RV over a year between uses, and before we bought the RV it had set for 2-3 years between some uses. Also, apparently ethanol in the gas nowadays hasn't fazed it.
