The answer would seem to be on page 14 of the user manual:
"Wiring faults detected include missing ground, hot-neutral polarity reversal, and overloaded neutral circuit".
You probably don't have a missing ground, the UPS has no way of knowing, but it thinks you have a missing ground. Try the bonding plug. You still won't have a ground, but the UPS will think that you do.
