Honda generator 3000is Carb replacement

OK, I let my Honda generator 3000is set up for about a year and a half in a storage unit. I know, what was I thinking. Anyways a buddy of mine who is a good mechanic said he could clean the carb and it should be fine. He gave it back to me the other day and altho it runs it doesn't run right. I spoke to him and it sounded as tho he got in over his head and now I might need a new carb. He suggested to me that I get a rebuilt one put on it. My questions is, can any motorcycle shop do this or does it have to be one that works on Hondas generators. Has anyone here had theirs replaced with a new or rebuilt one. Just wondering how much its going to cost me. I called a local Honda dealership and was told just labor alone is 120.00 an hour with about two hours to put it on. That sounds a little fishy to me. Two hours?
  • My eu2000I ran like junk form new. I think it's because Honda tests them and leaves fuel in the bowl.
It finally got straightened out when I ran half a can of Seafoam in one tank of fuel and let it run for 7 hours. Couldn't believe the difference after that. Not only smoother but only takes a few pulls to start rather than the 20 plus it did before.
You might try doing the same thing - wont cost much to try.

When I cleaned my Honda 2000 carb, I had to do it twice, and I've worked on carbs before. It doesn't take much to make them run wrong. I'd try cleaning it again before replacing.
  • I cleaned the carbs in my Honda gens and one ran ok, the other didn't. I then used Seafoam and ran them hard. No problems since, a year later. Now they both start on the first pull! I did go by the Youtube videos, and use the cut-off video to shut down the gas and let them run dry. As said, no problems since. Good luck
