He was probably trying to keep his batteries up with a 13.6 volt converter. There is no problem with the Honda, it's because he's in the desert. My Honda is enclosed in an insulated metal box and it's very quiet but out in the wide open desert it was far more noticeable. I walked off quite a distance and still heard it in the back ground.
Shortly after I was then in a park and had it running, later when we were talking to the owner she said the didnt even know we had a generator running until they walked right over to the truck. There were several trees in the area. It makes a huge difference. Buy a Honda or a Yamaha, I believe you will find more Honda dealers than Yamaha but it really doesn't matter as both of them have few problems.
