He must be referring to the camshaft drive. Every generator I have ever seen (other than home brew) has the generator directly bolted to the engine crankshaft.
Honda reliability is undisputed. Same for Yamaha. Kipor ???? The new Champion inverter models are selling well with few complaints (at a fraction of the price for Honda or Yamaha).
Personally, I think the Honda and Yamaha units are overpriced.
