In theory, the Yamaha's gear drive for the camshaft should be a better solution than Honda's belt drive. Additionally, the Honda camshaft sprocket looks like it's plastic. In practice, I've never heard of a single problem related to the eu2000i cam drive. I'm not saying there haven't been any issues, just that there's no critical mass of them. The eu2000i is (my guess) probably one of the smaller applications for the GX100 engine as it's used on lawnmowers and all sorts of other power equipment. There must be an awful lot of them out there. The statement could easily get mangled as it's passed on, but if a dealer actually said that one generator is gear drive and the other belt drive, he doesn't know one of the most basic things correctly. As noted earlier, they both use a direct-coupled drive.
