Honda

Waiting on delivery of my 27UL work and Play and now trying to decide on generator. Looking between the Honda EU 3000is and the EU6500is. Other than the increased weight, power, and price, is there any advantage from one to the other?
  • Thanks for all of the info and thoughts. I am aware that the 6500 is a lot and weighs a bit more than the 3000. I was also looking at using it as a unit for power failure at home. Getting ready to build another house and the wife is demanding a unit for the house. So not sure if she wants a permanent mount gen or a portable. I hear from the dealer that they could install a "relay" that would help in the cold start of the generator. With that being said I am going to you guys the pros for insight. This is my first time out with a TT and power. My experience limited me to no power, no tent unless I was lucky and air was something we breathed and not turned on..compliments of the good ole US Army....thanks in advance..
  • A pair of the EU 2000s are pretty hard to beat. Light enough for most anyone to handle them. Will satisfy most TTs power requirements easily. And as stated, most of the time you only need one. So the fuel savings can add up quickly.. To the point that the second Honda is paid for vs running a larger generator that is consuming more fuel than needed for the required power.

Then there is the redundancy factor of having a backup genny in camp.
Though my Hondas have never failed me, it is comforting to know that I have a backup. Especially since a lot of my camping is done in remote locations, where a failure can really put a crimp in my trip.

I often use one for a week or so, when I like to change the oil. I will just trade gennys out and change the oil at my leisure.
  • I still am looking for a 2,000 watt generator that can start a 13.5K roof air at high head pressure.

    And looking

    No not the Honda

    And looking

    Yamaha either

    And looking
  • Thing is, you can pick up the 2000's one at a time and sometimes you just need one. There are HE 13,5K BTU AC's that will run on one 2000. A little less than a 2000.
  • There are issues with 3000 watt generators and A/Cs. It is random if it works or not. For example, my 3000 watt Yamaha is on the edge. It will run the A/C fine, but to get it to start it cold, I have to fire up the generator, run the microwave with a cup of water in it for 30 seconds, then flip the A/C on while the generator is still "spun up" right after the microwave cuts off. Else, it won't "catch" the load, forcing a stop and restart.

Were I to do it all over again, I'd go for either the Honda eu2000is, eu2000is Companion and pairing kit wires, or the Yamaha ef4500 model. The two Hondas are a known good quantity. The Yamaha ef4500 is heavy, but will easily handle almost anything you throw at it from a 30 amp trailer unless you want 240VAC. You can also start that generator with a remote.
  • I have the Honda EU3000. Great gen. I had two EU2000 Hondas but I much prefer the EU3000 over the EU2000 . Never had the EU6500 nor do I think I would have the need for something that big
  • The 6500 will supply 240 volt split phase. Other that that it's the size, weight, etc. tradeoffs.
  • Gosh...the EU6500is is $4000.00 and weighs almost 300 lbs..
That's a lot...and, do you really need that much power?
  • Are you really going to run the air conditioner all day or night? ugh.
    Get the largest fuel tank.

Or what do you plan to run?
  • Why so big? Do you intend to power the whole camp ground?
Most people are more than satisfied with a pair of Honda 2KW's and a parallel kit.
