Hot refridge

Went camping with some friends near Palo Verde for three days of dry camping Before I left I plugged in the camper to cool down the fridge and charge up the batt.
fridge was nice and cold when I left.It was warm and on the second day I noticed the beer was cool, not cold and the fan on the back of fridge never turned off.
the back of the fridge was really hot.
I turned it off.
a friend looked at it and said it was missing some insulation and and said the top shelf was way to hot.
This is in a Palomino 800 that's only 2 years old.The warranty is up. I have to pull the fridge to put in the insulation .Any help is appreciated.
  • RWDIII, I live in the valley also. I camp a lot up north in summer. Things will soot up. About once a year I blow out everything. Fridge, furnace & water heater. Also spiders love the smell of propane & will spin webs in there. Once @ Happy Jack my furnace would not light. Pulled the outside vent out & found it full of webs. Blew it out and it worked. They will all quit or work below capacity with low batt voltage. On a hunting trip years ago my furnace quit. Fan would run but no heat. Then later learned that the sail switch needs more than 10.5v for the blower or the gas will not turn on. This is to make sure there is enough air flow to the burner to prevent an explosion. My oem monitor said Batt good. But was below 10.5v. I now have a Volt meter to check things Not exactly sure what your problem was but these are a few things I have learned the hard way over the years. Good Luck.

I had it serviced and the flue was dirty and dusty
Didn't realize that would make the unit heat up like that
  • Plugged in and it worked.......then went dry camping for 3 days. Got warmer.

    Noticed insulation missing?

Absorption fridges need 3 things to work properly
    Level
    Good ventilation
    Good heat source

Insulation missing (or possibly fallen down) disrupts proper ventilation
    Dry camping.......was rig level

Matt...what is the procedure to clean the flue?
    Thanks, Bob

Take off any sheet metal shrouds etc so you can see the burner to cover it. Then using compressed air, and tapping on it, just blow it all out. Then uncover the burner assy, and clean it w/ a vacuum.
If it burns a nice blue flame,....w/ a slight roar to it, you are good to go.
If the flame is sick looking, you may have to remove the burner assy, and remove and clean the orfice
  • Well, we know it worked on electric, but don't have the foggiest idea if it failed on electric, or propane. Maybe be try helping yourself by giving more info !

  • You give WAY too little information for a good answer.
Most newer reefers require 12V power for the control board. If it does not have that, it won't work.
Did you check the power at the control board?
Are there any error indicators lit?
Did you check the burner flame?
Have you cleaned the flue this year?

    Matt
  • Mine failed to cool on electric power this year. I switched it to gas and it worked fine. It was caused by a defective heating element that was inexpensive to repair. Try running it on gas to see if the reefer will operate that way before you start replacing any parts.
