hot water tank leaks from inserts

I have a 6 gallon aluminum water tank and I can see water slowly leaking from the plastic connections off the back of the tank, I've tightened them until I'm afraid they will break but still the little leak
Please advise.

I think you are talking about the plastic nut that is tightning over the metal stem coming out of the tank. If this is the case, take the nuts off, and you will find a cone washer behind them. take the cone washere to an RV store / Home Depot / Lowes, etc and you should be able to find replacements. The nuts only need to be tightned hand tight to seal.

After staring at it for a while I disassembled the whole thing and found that the plastic threads going into the tank had no Teflon tape on them at all. it had been a slow leak for ever apparently. So I taped them up and no leak.
I bought this used and have been fixing little things ever since. thanks very much for your help. something tells me I'll be back.

  • We had to replace some of the plastic connectors and used shark bite connectors in their place - works great. Not sure if the same area as your leaks or not.
