House batteries not charged by engine

My 1999 fleetwood southwind house batteries are not charging while driving
They accept a charge when the aux start switch is held on
Others talk of checking the solenoid but nobody says where it's located

Any advice?

  • You do not have a diode system. Your system is controlled by a circuit board in the Battery Control Center (BCC). The isolator relay is in the BCC. Early on Fleetwood mounter the BCC under the hood on the driver side. Yours may be else where. Have some one push the E start button and listen for the relay to click. All indications are, your circuit board has failed. For further help and wiring prints, post your problem here. "Old Bounder" will jump in with better information then I can supply. "Old Bounder" (lou) is the ultimate authority on Fleetwood's BCC. Trust what he says.

  • Possibly your rig has a diode type isolator which could be bad. It would have one wire from the alternator and 2 to the battery banks with a heat sink. All of this equipment will be located near the batteries.
  • Charge relay is located in battery control center. It should be the same as the auxiliary start. Have helper operate aux switch and listen for relay.
It should have separate fuse for charge circuit.
