How do you patch holes in the RV wall?

I posted this in the RV Lifestyle forum but maybe this is a better spot to get an answer:

We are upgrading our 13 year old 5th wheel and have some holes in the walls from removing our day night shades and replacing them with roller shades. The holes are very visible and I'd like to patch them somehow but since the walls are covered with some sort of vinyl wallpaper I'm at a loss. Any ideas?

For small holes I use crayons of the color of the wall paper. I push the wallpaper back into the hole with a cone tool creating a slight countersink then rub the crayon over the hole filling it. then remove the surrounding crayon with a rag. It blends nicely.
  • If you are talking about screw/nail holes, use a dab of caulk on your finger. That is how the manufacturers cover staples.
  • Repair can get difficult. Do you have the same paper in a closet, or cupboard wall that you can "borrow" enough to do the patching? Match the pattern with the patch and place them together. Cut both pieces at the same time, and you have a good match. I always make the patch irregular in shape to hide the outline.(Like doing a wood veneer repair). A simpler and more eclectic solution is to add a decorative molding or patterned cover over the damaged area. Higher contrast and covering all window sides, makes a "custom look".
  • Hi.
What I have done before, and on our current coach, is very carefully scraped any wallpaper that was sticking up, then applied a colored wood putty,
( available at HD or Lowes ) as close to the color of the wallpaper as possible, to fill the holes.

A couple of spots, due to the variation in wallpaper pattern, I used a touch of acrylic paint blended to match the area after the wood putty dried. Works very well.

They are such small areas on usually swirly patterned wallpaper, so unless you really look for it, you cant tell.

    Best of luck.
