How to clean a power awning??

When I had my manual awning, to clean it I would unclip the "feet" from the side of the RV and slide the arms under the rig. That left the awning flat against the side of the rig and made it easy to clean.

Now I have a power awning and I'm wondering how to clean the top of the fabric?? Maybe if I disconnect the gas struts the whole thing will lie down?

Dunno. Suggestions?

I never stated this was the only way to clean awnings but one way I do it with the ability to scrub the fabric.

Thanks. I get it now. I couldn't figure out what you meant by flipping ropes over the rig.

Get a magic eraser mop. It works awesome!
How do you reach the top?

  • We extend ours, spray both sides with bleach solution as above, roll it up for a30 minutes or so. Unroll, scrub spots with a long handled brush, air dry and retract. Takes about an hour. We do this twice a year.

Don't know if they will delete this post but to clean a power awning I posted on the Jayco site what I do. It includes photos of part of the process. You don't even need to get under it to get wet.

    Don't make it complicated.....

    Extend awning fully
Spray down the topside with a bleach/soap/water mix in a sprayer (I use a 2 gallon lawn sprayer)1/2 cup bleach 1/2 cup dish soap

Spray from top down.......then start retracting awning spraying from bottom up as it retracts.

Sink back, read, have a cold drink (or hot)......30 minutes.
Then extend and rinse off both sides..........let dry....retract.

This is exactly how we do our awning with maybe the mixture being a bit different, not enough to change yours. Our neibours next door who have been RV ing for 60 years told us this method.
