- jharrellExplorerWhen I put my Magnum in it had search mode on set to 5 watts minimum I think and it would blink the microwave clock on and off as that was about the only 120v load on when the fridge, tvs and ac where off.
I disabled search mode, if I don't want it taking power at idle I'll just hit the inverter button to shut it off manually. - Some inverters have a 'sleep' mode where it scans for a load every 10 or 20 seconds. If inverter senses a load it will pop on and supply 120 volts. Trouble is sleep mode is looking for a 40 to 60 watt load and may not sense that you want to watch tv or charge a cell phone because the load is so small. The sleep mode will cut that idle draw by ~75%. I think your installer disabled it because of this issue does not play well with most RV use.
Yes if you leave the inverter idle while you sleep it will consume about 16 amp/hrs overnight or 48 per day. Use the remote to power down and conserve power when needed. - GordonThreeExplorerI dent see how you could be starting or stopping a pull start generator from "inside"?
- SlownsyExplorerIt is a 30A. I am fine with the sub panel but someone posted he did it without one, my issue was that he did not connect all of the breakers to sub panel so coud not run all of FW of inverter and inverter wouldnt start because ther was not a large enough load for it to start op, and he kept saying you can't do that but finally did, that cost me a couple of hours why he sat and waited for Magnum to call back and tell him it hat to have a load on it like microwave or 100W incandescent globe. But now back to is it wort getting the remote display for youst the convenience of starting and stoping fron inside as my Trimatic already tels me exactly what batterys are doing. From my understanding if inverter left on overnight while no load it will draw 2A per ouer so say 8x2= 16A overnight.
Frank. - With a hybrid inverter you should do fine with a Honda 2000 but then you would have to pull start. You can set max amps drawn in with an inverter setting to avoid overload.
Is this a 30a or 50a RV? - GordonThreeExplorer

One more question, I was advised to get the remote for my Magnum hybrid inverter as one can start and stop from inside, very handy, It also monitors batteries etc but I already have the Tri Metric that does that. It also can set up different programs re inverting and charging, but do I really need this? I intend getting a Honda IS 3000 generater with electrical start and have read that some instal in front of pickup. Can this be started with remote control? I have got 4-6V 260A batteries and 600W of solar on roof for off grid purposes. Any comments and recommendations appreciated.
Frank.
The remote itself doesn't do much, you can adjust some charging and operational settings. The remote also networks with the generator start kit (AGS) and the battery monitor kit (BMK) ... those are sold separate from the remote.
I really like my BMK, but many here doubt its accuracy. It tracks your battery charge by counting actual amps used and returned, rather than guesstimating based on voltage.
The AGS is intended for built in generators, like an Onan, not portable generators like a Honda. - MrWizardModerator

Ok thanks all I had a mobile rv service come to do the connections for it and he kept saying you can't do it. And he also instaled a sup panel in front compartment, I am not great with el but coud not understand why it coud not be connected in main panel as it had at least 2 emty spaces for breakers,
Frank.
Against code, and a electrical hazard and dangerous
You don't back feed a panel with another power source using output breakers
You could have shore power and inverter on both trying to feed the panel, you would fried the inverter and maybe burn down the RV - SlownsyExplorerOne more question, I was advised to get the remote for my Magnum hybrid inverter as one can start and stop from inside, very handy, It also monitors batteries etc but I already have the Tri Metric that does that. It started and ran ouer 15000 btu air conditioner for about 5 minutes befor we shut it down. Then connected to mains and charger charged batteries at 90 + A
Now I am a happy camper.
Frank. - dons2346ExplorerYes it can depending on how the coach is wired. My Magnum runs every plug in the coach, I do not try to run AC because of my battery bank. Probably wouldn't try it even if I tripled the bank.
