  • I use the one I got at Sears on every trip!.. Every time we stop , I check the tires , wheels , bearings , ect... IF I get a reading that is much higher than the others , I will look into it a bit farther
  • Wheel bearings, thermostat housing, trans cooler, alternator, air conditiong condenser, converter, tires, battery cells, cable lugs, shore power connection and wires, heater register, cold spots in ceilings walls and windows, refrigerator gasket leaks. Martinis, oven temp, outside air temp...

I take it all back. The extremely limited utility of one of these gizmos is so limited squandering a small fortune on one is just plain silly.
  • I have one of those and it worked really well letting me know the fridge wasn't working right. Sad that we lost some food that trip but I'm glad we didn't eat it.

  • Never used one of these but i am assuming that they would measure the temps somewhat accurately inside the fridge? If so i will order one immediately !!!!

Thanks a bunch for the info and link.

Upon further review it appears the fridge temps have to be measured with the door open. Sigh, if it sounds to be good to be true....,

Go ahead, it will work great. You are not getting the temp of the air, you read the surface temp that is indicated by the laser pointer. So, you can read the temp with the door open. You can check the temp at the top and compare to the bottom and sides. You can read the inside of the door or even an item in the refrigerator shelf.
It is very accurate and works super.

I have an older model of what I assume to be the same HF "cheapie" and have been very happy with it for several years. Yes, big whitey, I think it would serve the purpose you're asking about

Was I correct in thinking it would not measure fridge temps unless the door was open? Thanks

Our version of Harbor Frieght is a company called Princess Auto, named for its first location, on Princess Street in Winnipeg, carried that same unit, it works well and after 3 or 4 years is still working just fine.
