Set screw terminals have been used for 50+ yrs, never heard a complaint till now. Yes, maybe they are designed more for solid wire. I learned 50 yrs ago to tin, even heavily solder stranded wire. And yes, the set screw needs tightening, and then retighten, maybe even 3 to 4 times before they stop turning. The PD converters, and probably many more use set screw terminals. I really never saw a problem when done correctly.
If the strand wire is a problem, why not solder a solid maybe even larger pc of copper on the end, sealed w/ shrink wrap, (for cosmetic reason only)
