intermittent DC outage

I need some advice for how to troubleshoot this problem.

We occasionally lose DC power, when we are on house power only. It never seems to happen when connected to shore power, or when the engine is running. Without any action by us, it will "auto-magically" come back on.

I've confirmed that the house batteries are fully charged, and all battery cables are tightly clamped.

Any ideas about what might be going on?
  • Could you be exceeding the rating of an inline circuit breaker? Perhaps the breaker trips and is an auto-resetting type?

I like the circuit breaker auto reset idea. You also might want to check the BAT connection to the 12VDC Power Distribution Panel.

This is a typical DC Distribution Panel where the DC FUSES are located. Those screwdriver lug connections might not be tight.

  • A DEFINITE pinpoint would be the DURATION of the outages. If the duration is almost the same, the odds of it being a breaker cycling go way way up.
