Everyone has somehow gotten fixated on the generator and ignored the original question. The batteries are in their own sealed, externally vented boxes so that puts them in a separate compartment. No issue for battery gases.
As far as the genny: It's sealed in its own box which is then in another sealed box undoubtedly vented to the outside or it wouldn't run. How much heat could there be outside the second box. If in doubt, put a thermometer in the location in which you wish to install the inverter, close the compartment and run the generator for a period of time. Check the thermometer.
FWIW, my Prowatt 2000 calls for a minimum of 2 inches of clearance around the inverter for airflow and lists the operating ambient air temp to be 32F to 104F. I have undoubtedly operated it at higher temperatures than that.
