Closer is better, but as with ALL things, you must use LARGE battery cables and NO the 15 feet was not a typo. 2/0 battery cable is more than adequate for long runs. The Diesel pushers for the past 10 years or more have at least 15 feet from the Battery to the Inverter/Chargers. Doug
