Let me guess: Your Honda is a EU-2000i, Inverter generator
your dad's is a Open Frame contractor's model powered with a Honda Motor.
These are NOT, even close to the same thing... Here is why.
If you were to look at the EU-2000i with a device we tech types call a 'scope (Oscilloscope) you would see a nice sharply defined sine wave.. 60 HZ plus or minus next to nothign, Nice smooth lines.
But you hook the same 'scope to a contractor's unit you may see spikes into the hundreds of volts, and the sine wave may well look more like a fuzzy worm (Caterpillar) than a nice sharp line.
Now most electronics... Well the power supply filters can tame the ...stuff.. that comes out of those contractor's models.
But,, Most =not= all,, Some simply object to it.
That is my guess.. But .. I wish to stress it is a guess.
