Thank you everyone for all your help in understanding these circuits.

We have a mh, our 3rd, that we run fridge on LP when traveling. I run a cord with switch up to the drivers seat so I can turn the fridge off while gassing up mh.

I see you are totally confused on the issue
#1 RV fridge on electric uses more power than a residential home 120v compressor fridge that is the same size

You don't run RV fridge of inverter...use the the propane , unless plugged in some where

#2 how much solar do you have , how many watts of solar on the roof

#3 a built in, inverter/converter combo will not create a loop, it does only one job at a time, it an either or thing
It charges if you have shore power or generator, it inverts when there is only battery power accessible

#4 a discharge loop can be created when a person adds a stand alone inverter ( as whole house) when that is a converter already installed,
in this 'install' you must have a way to turn off 120v to the converter, either by using the circuit breaker in the 120v section of your power panel, or by unplugging the converter from 120v

#5 no loop is created, if the stand alone inverter is wired to a dedicated circuit powering dedicated outlets for certain functions
Aka tv, or fridge or pc
And NOT wired whole RV, where it also powers the whole RV & converter

It is generally safe to run your refrigerator on gas when on the move. It is designed that way.

But if you are scared in doing that, then there is nothing we can do about it.

More knowledgeable on charging of solar and the drain of using ref with an inverter are about right.

If you are boondocking and concerned with power drain, then buy yourself a generator.

Sometimes when solar conditions were ideal, and the battery bank was full, I would run my fridge from the inverter for a couple of hours.

We do have a propane refrigerator but wanted options if we travel long periods of time or boon dock. Thanks everyone for all your good input.

Here are some options:

1. run the fridge from the inverter, but disconnect the converter.

2. run the fridge on the "automatic" setting which allows it to choose propane when not connected to shore power.

Unless a special effort has been made with the charging system from the alternator, it is unlikely that the batteries will stay charged using the inverter to power the fridge. My fridge uses 325 watts when cooling and on an average day uses 5.7 KWH.

Allowing for inverter losses, 325 watts works out to a load of over 30 amps.

Unless you have quite a good solar installation running the fridge via the inverter may drain the "house" battery bank.
