They had to switch to plastic when they added ethanol alcohol to fuel. It's hygroscopic fuel now, sucking moisture out of the humidity from the air, and rusting out steel fuel tanks.
I used this on my 5L Jerry can before I ever put gasoline in it. The 20L cans are used, and would be difficult to clean well enough to use it on them. If I was buying new cans, I would definitely coat them before filling them.

- Reddog1Explorer IIThink maybe the US Military and NATO do not know about the issue with steel tanks? Personally, I have had far more issues with plastic tanks.
Wayne - RJsfishinExplorerThey went to plastic for more than 1 reason.
On a long trip, if the metal can touch anything metal, it can wear a hole thru the side in less miles than you would ever believe.
Another reason is rust !!!! I wouldn't have any kind of crappy metal can ever again.
Ever see a metal boat tank wear right thru the bottom of a boat ?? I have, not to mention the rusty stains where the tank slid off the pc of carpet that was supposed to stay under it. I'll take the carb **** over the metal **** anyday. - Tin_PusherExplorer IIFrom the link: "* Note: Federal law prohibits the use of this container for the storage of fuel."
Interesting, eh? It's that CARB CR*P again :) - austinjennaExplorerGet a good Jerry can and dont worry about it.
Clicky - Tin_PusherExplorer IILynnmor, I've got one of the Combined Mfg spouts to retrofit a 1 gal CARB can, haven't used it yet, but it looks like a good setup.

Thanks, but not an original idea. I did make my own extended fuel tank setup, with a shutoff valve. Without moving my Honda or boat fuel tank, I can connect the extended tank hoses and caps. One gallon of fuel in the Honda and 3-1/2 gallons in the boat tank gives my 4-1/2 gallons of fuel. The boat tank is mounted high enough to be out of harms way.
RedDog2, that gravity feed system is brilliant!
I now use a 2-1/2 NATO style fuel cans with the same extended fuel concept. - Reddog1Explorer II

Since you asked, here ya go.
ARMY UTILITY JERRY CANS
Sometimes they have used/surplus Jerry cans that are priced slightly lower.
I bought three used 20L cans from them several years ago, and love them. I will never mess with plastic CARB cans again!
I always carry a 20L can of diesel and a 5L can of gasoline with me when we're out in the TC.
