IS QUALITY ASKING TOO MUCH?

Plain and simple...we've become a throw-away society.

Look at electronics. When was the last time it was more economical to have a TV repaired than it was to just buy a new one? Same thing with computers.

I think us RVers expect more (and should expect more), because we've grown up in the world of quality. Somewhere along the way, society accepted less for convenience and the latest/greatest gadget.

The invertor of the Shore power plug, and the Ciggy plug/receptacle, got together with Murphy and the DEvil to create one of the worst electrical connectors ever conceived.

And how many people will drage their electrical cords, male or female, through the dirt and give no thought to contact oxidation or the dirt inside the plug, or forcing a blackened copper plug into an equally ugly receptacle.

Try cleaning prongs and receptacles with Caig Deoxit and be amazed how nicely they slide into the outlet. FLIR would likely show a much cooler plug too passing the same Wattage.

The answer is simple; The public has been conned! We have been told over and over that price is the most important. Sales bring in customers to buy since the product is now cheaper. Since the price at the lower point now becomes expected, the store finds a manufacturer willing to make the product at a lower cost. This usually means a change in production methods(cheaper components or cheaper labor source) As long as the customer receives the incentive to buy(lower price) everything else follows.
A case in point is cars. Notice that it is now the normal operating mode to offer rebates to drive the sales. If this becomes required then the makers will then be required to adjust costs accordingly.

Almost everything can still be found if quality is what you want. Don't keep getting the cheap one if you want good quality.

Boats with living quarters are self contained, just like RV's.

So, When I need replacement parts for my rig, the first place I search is the Marine supply market. Most marine parts are more robust, and better quality all around. The downside is cost is much higher, but it's usually a one time cost and I'm happy with that.
