The slide motor has two wires, whatever colour they used (mine has red and white) You put one wire on the battery neg post and the other wire on the pos post and that runs the motor.
Reverse the wires on the posts and the motor turns the other way.
The slide- out rocker switch works by reversing the pos and neg connections inside the switch for IN and OUT.
Ok I don't know what you mean by 'grounding the motor' (by its chassis?) but it ran when you used the two wires like it should. That's good because those motors like an 18 to 1 cost about $550.
