My idea for "arguing" an issue on a public forum is to present facts in such a way as to make a comparison meaningful. I'll always remember a group of about fifteen Quebecois gathered around a beach bonfire around a thousand miles south of the border. They were arguing Quebec politics, some of them were red-faced and yelling French at the top of their voice while jabbing fingers in the air.
IMHO when someone "attacks" a poster rather than their information, they have already forfeited their position, regardless of what follows. It's a classic political move and a rather distasteful one a that.
"I have found" or "In my experience" are two suggested opening lines for a disagreement. Ending a statement with a question mark is another way to de-fuse a perhaps controversial issue. To belittle a question in my opinion is one of the most egregious of public self-insults...
