One thing I learned by reading my Prosine (inverter) manual is different batteries have different voltage curves.. One company, for example, that sells in Canada needs over sixteen volts for the bulk charge (most get by with 14)
There is considerable brand to brand difference in batteries, way more than we normally admit here in the forum.
Another thing the original poster failed to take into account,,, One of the things I need is a battery that can survive some limited abuse.. Example discharge to say nine volts.. Starting types, including Marine/Deep cycle are not noted for doing that.. DEEP CYCLE like the Interstate U-2200's this rig came with.. DID several times.
Of course I did add water from time to time, and clean
But as for plugging it in and running six years without any attention.. Very possible with a Maintenance free design, (This includes AGM) and a QUALITY 3-stage converter.
However with a bit of attention from time to time, those U-2200's made it nine years... Maintenance is a small price to pay for 50% more battery life.
I am hoping the Deka's I have in there now will do as well.
