BFL 13, you can purchase really nice DC to DC buck converters these days. When your integrated circuits cry FLOAT! throw a switch trip a relay and watch the DC to DC converter apply REGULATED higher voltage to the bank. How is it "regulated"?
Of course, by YOU. With a tiny pot turning screwdriver. Forget to switch? OK sue me, put a limit timer on the Bucking regulator. Notice I put a capital B in there.
I "get by" on less money than 99.99% of forum readers. When the outgo is in balance with the incoming, then there are smiles. Small rigs are in the same league. Something tells me you would not want to candlelight and outhouse camp.
Absorbed Glass Mat technology is appropriate for a certain niche market. Any battery technology is. Lithium is attractive until safety and cost enter the equation. It's a pie chart divided into segments.
The "trick" is finding out what is appropriate for you and no one else.
Here's a little something to chew on. A different rating for RV batteries, and it's called the hundred hour rating. How many amperes can be extracted out of like jar size batteries and at the end of 100 hours, have a 50% state of charge level...
Hmmm?
