LCD Monitor for Back Up Camera - ACC?

Received my China made/limited instruction 7' LCD monitor with 2 video inputs. I paired it with a small camera to use as a back up camera. While the back up camera is pretty straight forward, I'm a bit confused with the connection process of the LCD monitor and I'm hoping someone here has installed a similar unit.

The "instructions" include a black and white diagram which shows three wires (in addition to the video connections). The wires are labeled ACC, DC+12V and Ground but are not identified by color.

There are three colored wires for me to use -- a blue, a black and a fused red. I am assuming the black wire is ground, fused red is constant 12V power, and through process of elimination, leaves the blue wire as ACC. Am I correct so far?

If I am, I'm guessing the ACC wire should be connected to a power source that only provides power when the van's ignition switch is on?

Finally, the back up camera only has two wires, black and red. I'm going to guess the black goes to ground and the red is connected to the power lead for the reverse lamp?

I've not attempted anything this "complex" before. I'm disappointed that the instructions are so lacking. Most of my battery work has been wiring batteries in series or parallel or wiring up 12V fans to male cigarette lighter type plugs instead of disposable batteries.

It would be great if someone who has done this before can "hand hold" through the project.

Thank you!

Carolyn

Though there is no "Standard" for what color is what.. There is a Tradition. and if (And that is a big IF) they followed tradition.. You figured it out.

Suggestion..When you first apply power do so through a light bulb, a 1156 or 1141 should be a good choice. the slight voltage drop (Assuming the device does not draw more than an amp or two) may cause it to function poorly but if you get a very bright light, either the device is hooked up wrong or it draws alot more power than I expect.

    NOTE on the blue wire....

It normally connects to the back up lights. and you may wish to do it that way, I wish mine came on automatically all the time but.

With the back up wire "HOT" (The one you think is blue) it switches to input A (or 1 if you like) which is the back up camera.. With the wire "Cold" (NOT in Reverse) it will let me choose the camera (I have two cameras)

Since I'm driving a gasser it's a long way to the gas cap, it's a long way from where I sit (yes you can sing that line,,, but odds are you don't know the tune). Camera 2 (B) is located at the gas cap. below it on my coach)

When the pump is in the center of the screen,, Park, drop pump side jack and fill 'er up.
  • Probably - red/black will get you one video input and the extra wire will activate second video input (overrides main video input) when it sees 12v. Could use for side view cam. Find 12v for turn signal before it gets to flasher. When right turn flasher on the right side cam displayed to be sure it is OK to turn.
  • The red is 12V
    The black is ground
The blue is used if you want it to turn on when you back up. It would hook up to your back up lights. You do not need to hook up the blue wire.
  • No, it's not wireless but the wired video connection portion of the install was so simple I omitted it so as not to confuse you with my unnecessary ramblings about it;-)

  • Sounds like you have it figured out.
Assuming it is wireless transmission from camera to display.
