Repair of hydraulic pumps, cylinders and all components is my job....hey somebody has to do it!
1) Ambient temps will not effect hydraulic function providing all is right with the system, fluids, clean, pressure relief setting etc.
2) NEVER mix fluids!
3) Pumps in hyd. systems are positive displacement pumps (gear rotor, piston) not centrifical (impeller) type pumps.
4) The reason the slide was coming in way faster than before is, as you guessed, the lines were reversed....the ram takes up space and the fluids flow volume remains the same = faster movement. Fluid flow is controlled by orofice size.
5) The pumps maker must specify correct fluid to be used. Research is the way here.
6) If you can use factory rebuild kits to fix these systems do so.
7) RTV is never to be used in hydraulic systems...for the DIY'r auto trans gasket maker will do fine.
8) Please never tell my Mom I am a Machinist and Hydraulic tech....she thinks I play piano in a brothel.....it would break her heart if she knew the truth.
