Leaky camper shell windows.

I recently bought a used ARE camper shell. Both sides and the front window leak when it rains. I'm assuming that whatever is used to seal the windows to the shell has started to fail.

Does anyone know what kind of seal is used on these type of windows? I plan on taking them all out so I can seal them correctly. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

  • BEFORE you start sealing them up CHECK the weep holes in the frame of the window. 9 times out of 10 they are clogged up with dirt and debris and the water can't drain out and it comes inside the RV.
  • Thanks for the replies. i'm not sure what the windows are sealed with since I have not pulled the windows yet and I can't tell what they are sealed with.

  • Hard knowing what you have. I had a truck cap that the windows were set in a rubber gasket. To seal required lifting the edge of the rubber and injecting sealing goop of some sort. The truck cap place did it under warranty and had a very thin nozzle on what looked something like a caulking gun.
  • We used butyl tape to seal the windows and then topped it off with ProFlex. I resealed most last year and have 3 left to do this year. I'm assuming your windows are similar to those in our travel trailer.
