My "joke" that if they battery industry could use the following cranking amps methodology they would. Anyone who complained about the new rating would be admonished - this is normal underhood environment.

What is DVA you ask? It's what a battery would develop for cranking amperage in Badwater, Death Valley, on the 4th of July.

It's not only that LED market is unregulated, it's also that it is still developing. Besides, a lot of those illiterate claims come from people that can barely read or write English.

Btw, my incandescent bulbs in trailer are 18W, not 27W.

A few weeks back, I bought two new 40w equivalent, led house lamps, rated at 5.5w each power use, too replace CFL lamps I was using in the dining room fixture
$10 each at home depot, I really like these, instant on, good color, dimmable

I understand the original point. It is false advertising to advertise the LED as 25w if it consumes 6w. If it actually was 25w it would be blinding bright.

The LED market now is the wild west and is virtually unregulated. Sellers can make any claim they want and most consumers don't know the difference.

Eventually LEDs will become commonplace, consumers will learn to compare lumen, and the market will get rid of the scammers.

Here are the typical wattage ratings for incandescent lamps;
1034 = 27/8w
1156 = 27w
1157 = 27/8w
3157 = 27/8w

Based on this info and the advertised 25w of the LED my guess is that there would be no improvement in light output. In fact it may be worse in a tail/brake light due to the concentration of the LED. When an LED is placed in a fixture designed for incandescent the LED usually does not have the reflectivity inside the fixture like an incandescent. Often an LED replacement tail/brake gives a glow only in the center of the lens.

costco has a good deal now on LED bulbs. 3 for $19.95 with $10.00 off from light company or some such. the only normal based ones I could find were 40 watt equivalent, no 60s however.

I would agree that the 25W is meant as an "equivilant" and is about what an 1157 would draw. At 6W, the LED is about 25% of the incandecent, about where I would expect it to be. I'll bet the LED is actually brighter. Cree produces a high quality product in their chips and in house made soulutions, though I can't speek to all the implimentations by other manufactures that just use the chips.

I have a couple of their 60W "equivilant" TW series A19 bulbs (made in the USA!) in my home, and so far they are AMAZING! I replaced 2 burnt out bulbs in my ceiling fan, so now there are 2 TW bulbs and 2 halogen bulbs. There is a VERY SMALL perceiveable difference in color temperature, and the LED are just slightly brighter. These are the first bulbs that have a functionality, light quality, and visual look both on and off, to be direct replacements for the A19 incandecent. I would replace everything in my home tomorrow if I funds allowed

For those of us in California, the state is subsidizing the Cree TW series. The 60W eq are under $8 at Home Depot. WOW!!

I checked my calendar and yes, today is nit pick day. sort of reminds me of somebody here complaining about the comparison of digital sensors to the full frame 35mm size equivalent. I mean with 25 or so different digital sensor sizes how else would you make sense out of it. and yes, I can figure out that a bulb rated as 40 watt equivalent is dimmer than one that is 60 watt equivalent. and all of the ones I have bought recently have a slide rule on it showing warm/cool.

Tail Lights typically have both Tail and Stop lamp in the same bulb, (Same for front turn/parking lamps) Thus the 1157 which as two contacts and "Staggered" pins for locking.. The Shell is ground (Same as on a 1156) one contact his high power (Same as a 1156) and the other is low power.. 90 something (not sure of the 2nd digit)

1156 (and 1141 as well) is a back up light or a dome light by the way (or a 3rd eye brake lamp) in typical use.

The lumen rating is the only real way to judge light output, but there is also color temperature in "K". Depending on the color temperature the light output of one bulb vs another can appear different even if the lumen output is the same.

Like a lot of other things in life now days, nothing is simple.
