Robotic or welding cable would probably work well. It all depends how tight a radius the bends end up being when retracted I bet.

It has been mentioned about the cable fatiguing by the up and down movement, but my concern would be the down time, meaning the long periods before the cable insulation is exercise. Rubber/derivatives excise oils when heated/moved and harden and dry out when not. That is where I would be concerned is the lack of use and overheating the cable due to improper sizing.
