LOAD LEVELER U BOLTS

I was bored the other day and decided to repaint my 500 pound capacity load leveler bars. I decided to remove the U bolts and do a good job. When I went to reinstall the U bolts I realized the removal was a bad idea as the ends of the threads were trashed from scrapeing on speed bumps. Two hardware stores and Home Depot did not have U bolts thick enough to work. I looked on line and found a set for $23 plus S&H. Any suggestions on replacement? These are case hardened? Any thoughts? There are times I really am my worst enemy.

Would love to just clean up the threads. Problem is the ends are so close a die tool will not fit. Not too good with a file. I tried.

That's what a thread file is for, make sure you have the right size and take your time.

  • Can't you just clean up the threads with a die or thread file???
