My guess, you will find the sensor clipped to one of the cooling lines. That is the common place for it.
I found it on the coolant line out of the transmission to the transmission oil cooler.
I removed the wire and cycled the ignition key and the gauge did not move, with it disconnected it should think it is very cold.
I shorted it to the chassis and cycled the key and needle in the gauge started to move all the way across the gauge.
Turned the key off and the needle stayed high.
I reconnected the wire to the sensor and the gauge reads 180 degrees with the key on.
I believe it is the gauge.
